Archives: Our Team
Our team is convinced that the vitrues of our terroir, combined with a strict, precise and respectful viticulture and winemaking are the key behind our wines.
Rocío Osborne
Sixth-generation
Established in 1772, Bodegas Osborne is one of the most prestigious wine and spirits producers in Spain. The family-owned business’ activities were started by Thomas Osborne Mann, an Englishman who set sail from Devon over two centuries ago, driven by an increasing demand in London for wines from Jerez. Upon arrival, he decided to create a company with Sir James Duff, British Consul in Cadiz, in order to export wines to England and other countries. A few years later he established the first wineries that would carry his name. Bodegas Osborne has remained in family hands ever since, headquartered in the same centennial buildings in El Puerto de Santa María. Rocío Osborne, a sixth-generation family member, represents the family business across the globe, highlighting the quality and values behind 245+ years of winemaking heritage.
Team
Winery
We are extremely fortunate to access the best grapes that our terroir provides, but it is the passion behind our team what has enabled our winery to position itself as a referent in Rioja. Every team member, from winemaking to shipments, is committed to craft the authentic Rioja. Because behind each drop, each bottle and each case of Montecillo lies a history of respect, integrity, compromise and team work.
Mercedes García Rupérez
Chief Winemaker
After more than 10 years dedicated to Montecillo’s wines, our chief winemaker Mercedes and her team have achieved a renewed range that not only remains true to the tradition of our brand and our region of origin, but also has the capacity of going beyond, taking its character, so rooted in this area, to a more up-to-date and unique expression.
For Mercedes, the best wines are conceived in the vineyard: defining all the viticultural aspects, selecting small parcels, working ever more closely with our vine growers. This definitely shows that a passion for the land combined with the expertise of a century-old winery are essential to enthrall today’s wine enthusiasts.
