Discover this wine 92% Tempranillo, 8% Garnacha

Variety

Tempranillo – Garnacha

Classified as very good vintage. A vintage marked by high temperatures throughout the entire cycle, which resulted in an earlier than usual start to the harvest. We began harvesting the Tempranillo vineyards on September 9th. Thanks to the low levels of rainfall in September, the grapes were in very good health and, thanks to the hard work of selecting the vineyards, we were able to pick the grapes at the ideal moment of ripeness.

Tempranillo grapes come entirely from vineyards in Rioja Alta, with an average age of over 22 years, in the areas of Fuenmayor, Cenicero, Baños de Ebro, Sajazarra, Cuzcurrita and Arenzana. Garnacha grapes were harvested in vineyards in Rioja Oriental, in the area of Pradejón and Alcanadre.

Elaboration

1

The Tempranillo was vatted in Ganímede tanks. 5% of the must was bled-off and cold maceration took place over 2 to 3 days. Fermentation took place respecting the fruit.

2

Thanks to the Ganímede tanks, we were able to extract colour and aromas, as well as mature, smooth tannins. After 12 days of skin contact (less than on other occasions so as to reduce the extraction of green notes), it was devatted using gravity and the wines underwent malolactic conversion in underground cement tanks.

3

The Garnacha fermented in small truncated-cone steel tanks, at a controlled temperature with continuous pumping-over, with prior bleeding-off of 7% of the must.

Breeding

1

Tempranillo: aged for 18 months in American oak barrels from 1 to 3 years of age. The barrels have lightly toasted staves and medium-toasted heads, to give greater complexity.

2

Garnacha: aged for 16 months in American oak barrels of an average age of 2 years. These barrels are unusual in that the heads are untoasted to retain fresher fruit notes.

Color

Cherry red color with a bluish rim, very clean and bright. Intense nose with a marked presence of ripe red fruit, red licorice, and notes of sweet chocolate. Intense, persistent, and versatile, with a very pleasant toasted background.

Smells

Intense, persistent, and versatile, with a very pleasant toasted background.

Taste

On the palate, it has a fresh attack with very round tannins. On the mid-palate, it once again shows its fruity power and seduces with a sweet and very balanced finish.
